Health Preservation Association

The Health Preservation Association (HPA) main purpose is to promote health and wellness and to prevent illness and disability in healthy individuals while supporting persons with illness or disability to regain and maintain their health and longevity. This is done through the practice of Qigong consisting of breathing techniques and movement to regulate the body’s natural energy. Through a series of relaxed body movements and standing, sitting or moving meditation, energy is gathered from the natural environment and brought into our bodies to help prevent or treat various aliments.

Qigong theory holds that there are twelve meridians in the human body.  For each meridian, there are numerous points located throughout the body. Many are located around the wrist and ankle. Qi can be absorbed into the human body through entry points on the skin. These points are stimulated with acupressure and acupuncture, but they can also be stimulated through Qigong practice.

The main meridian network consists of six channels connected to our Yin organs and six connected to our Yang organs. Through proper Qigong movements, we can stimulate these organs and hope to stave off illness or diseases that affect them. The focus of the HPA program is on methods and techniques related to specific health issues such as arthritis, high blood pressure, diabetes, or neck and back pain while also promoting general health and wellness. Although, Qigong is not a substitute for proper medical care, it affords us the opportunity to actively deal with illness and to create a positive mental state towards overcoming illness and maintaining our health regardless of our current condition.

HPA will offer four seasonal weekend workshops focusing on Taiji and Qigong. These are excellent opportunities for individuals to learn methods they can use as part of a regular practice to serve them their entire life.
